Change Engine Oil - Save Money!

Talked to some of my racing buddies about this one and it’s true.  Changing your engine oil regularly means the inside of your engine stays cleaner which means it doesn’t use as much fuel to create the power to move your car or pickup.  And that translates into dollars that stay in your wallet!  I like that.

Engines that are cleaner inside also produce less pollution.  I like that, too!

But here’s some other reasons to change your oil regularly.

We live in an area here in the southern valley that most oil manufacturers say constitutes severe driving conditions.  It’s cold and then it’s hot…then it gets cold again.  Add in the snow, dust, bugs and…well, it makes sense that you’re not going to get 5,000, 10,000 or 15,000 miles on a change of oil.

Most oil manufacturers recommend that drivers in severe driving conditions change their oil every 3,000 miles.  In fact if you read the small print on those high mileage oils they legalize it by saying their long mileage guarantees don’t apply if you operate the vehicle in severe driving conditions.  And believe me, the list of what constitutes severe driving conditions is very, very long.

Winter is especially hard on your engine.  Wear and tear takes place just by turning the ignition on when it’s cold.  Gas can stick on cyliner walls and creates more than the optimum amount to its mixture with oil.

Cold starts also melt the condensation that forms on the engine walls and contaminates the oil.

And while you’re changing the oil always change the oil and air filters, too.  It’s just cheap insurance.

If you haven’t changed your oil it’s time to do so.
