Biodiesel in the Dictionary
Biodiesel is no longer just a hot commodity…it’s a real word! Biodiesel made the 2006 edition of “Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary.”
Biodiesel is defined as “a fuel that is similar to diesel fuel and is derived from usually vegetable sources (as soybean oil).”
Biodiesel use is increasing in the United States. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates production of biodiesel to be around 150 million gallons this year.
Interestingly, the inventor of diesel in 1894, Rudolph Diesel, urged that vegetable oil be used in his engines, not petroleum diesel. Until recently, though, petroleum diesel was the cheaper alternative.
Farmers Union Oil of Southern Valley markets biodiesel, available at of our locations in Fairmount, Wahpeton, Mooreton & Breckenridge.
